Eloise Barbieri
Being a passionate mountaineer and traveller, Eloise Barbieri’s films are based on her personal experiences, however she also writes articles and works as a photographer for travel magazines. She often chooses to travel alone, believing that this is the only way to integrate fully into a community. She has crossed a large part of Tibet, northern India, Pakistan and Nepal alone and on foot. She was part of the first all-female expedition to attempt to cross the entire Hielo Continental in Patagonia and was a member of the first climbing expedition to return to the Wakhan Corridor in Afghanistan after 20 years. She has summited three 8,000m peaks without supplementary oxygen in addition to numerous peaks in South America. Her most interesting works include: Nenet, i nomadi della tundra (2008) shot in Siberia alongside the reindeer herdmen during one of the last and most fascinating transhumances on Earth and Ani, monache nello Sichuan (2008) about the life of monks living in the ancient Kham monasteries. Since 2010 she has been making and producing a series of TV programmes on mountain topics for the RAI TV’s Valle d’Aosta Centre.
